Dog Days

Dog Days, Google and Cicadas. The cicadas are here. They fly like overloaded cargo planes. Sound like the Weather Bug alarm on my computer, except a higher pitch and more insistant cycle. WREE WREE WREE.

One glowered at me while pretending to be part of a chokecherry tree. But didn't wait for me to go get the digital camera. I suppose the neighbors will wonder about me over the next few days as I skulk (see definition below) around the yard, camera in hand, trying to digitally capture one.

I went to the computer, typed in "noisy insect" and learned about the life cycle of Dog Day Cicadas, the conjunction of the DogStar and the Sun, and that the Dog Days of Summer started July 3rd and end today, the 11th of August.

Now, to get a good pic of one!

skulk. 1. To lie in hiding; lurk. 2. To move about stealthily. 3. To evade work or obligation; malinger. (Must be my wife's definition since she asks what I did all day.)
